Zoo Atlanta Awarded Grant From The Institute of Museum and Library Services

ATLANTA – August 23, 2010 – Zoo Atlanta has received a prestigious grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to lead a multi-institutional effort to examine heart disease in great apes. The $92,000 grant represents an historic show of support for an area of ape health care that has until now been poorly understood by veterinarians.

Atlanta Braves Fifth Annual “Breast Cancer Awareness Night” presented by Publix

The Braves will honor those who have courageously battled breast cancer on Sunday, September 12, with “Breast Cancer Awareness Night” presented by Publix and in partnership with American Cancer Society’s Making Strides for Breast Cancer. Woman Arrested in Connection with South Carolina Murder

According to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department:

Gwinnett County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a woman Friday night in Buford wanted out of South Carolina for accessory after the fact to felony murder.

Tina Louise Harper, 27, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., was arrested at her sister’s residence on King Arthur Court in Buford after Gwinnett Sheriff’s deputies were contacted by the Horry County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina.

Ms. Harper was taken into custody without incident in the living room of the residence. The homicide occurred in South Carolina on August 21. Warrant information stated that Ms. Harper had knowledge of the persons involved in the murder and gave false and misleading statements to investigators in order to help those responsible escape detection.

Ms. Harper is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail on a fugitive from justice warrant for South Carolina authorities.
