Fulton County Commission approves F.R.E.S.H. grants

Fulton County Commissioners approved $1,850,000 in 2013-2014 F.R.E.S.H. (Fulton Roundtable Expanded Services Headquarters) Grant funds for selected non-profit groups to carry out programs and direct services to children ages 0 to 21 from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2014.    The grant recipients were recommended by the F.R.E.S.H. Grant Community Advisory Boards. Commissioners approved the grant awards during the Wednesday, May 15, 2013 Recess Meeting.

The Community Advisory Boards reviewed applications, identified potential program sites and determined funding allocations. All applicants were required to address at least one of the following goals from the Board of Commissioners Health and Human Services Focus Areas, which included developing a network of integrated and effective health and human services that improve health outcomes and promote health equity; and enact policies that promote health equity and environmental justice.

Riverside Farmers Market opens June 1

The Riverside Farmers Market will open for its fourth season on Saturday, June 1, 2013. The popular market is operated by Fulton County Cooperative Extension.

The market will return to the same location, in the parking lot of Roswell City Hall located at 38 Hill Street. Hours are Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon through September.  The market is open rain or shine.

The 2013 season promises to be the strongest yet for the Riverside Farmers Market, with more than 15 vendors. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, vendors will provide knife sharpening, honey, baked goods, eco-friendly clothing, as well as live performances by local musicians.

Market visitors can also get free advice from UGA Fulton County Cooperative Extension Agents and Master Gardeners on topics ranging from planting a garden, to radon detection to canning.

11Alive visits Centennial Olympic Park

ATLANTA -- The 11Alive News Today morning show continued its summer "This is Home" tour with a visit to Centennial Olympic Park in Downtown Atlanta.

Several colorful characters greeted Karyn Greer, Chesley McNeil and John "Commuter Dude" Gerard at the park, including Atlanta Braves mascot Homer, and the Atlanta Hawks cheerleaders and mascot.

Fulton Co. Board names new Director of Registration & Elections

ATLANTA -- The Fulton County Board of Commissioners named Richard Barron as the new Director of Registration & Elections at their meeting on Wednesday. 

Barron, an official for Fulton County reported, comes from Williamson County, Texas, where is served as Elections Administrator. There, he supervised 30 election cycles. Since 1999, Barron has put in work in several areas of the public and private sector with services related to elections. 

Barron attended the University of Oregon, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree, followed by a Master of Arts degree at Antioch University. 

"I am confident that Mr. Barron will serve the citizens of Fulton County with integrity and professionalism," Mary Carole Cooney, Chair of the Fulton County Board of Registration & Elections said.

Fulton County seeks public comment

Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department wants public comment on the draft proposed FY2013 Substantial Amendments.  The amendments are part of the 2010 – 2014 Consolidated Plan and Neighborhood Stabilization Program 3 Annual Action Plan. HUD requires each jurisdiction to conduct a citizen participation process regarding Substantial Amendments in accordance with the jurisdiction’s citizen participation plan.

The Substantial Amendments cover the funding of projects such as Public Services, Housing Rehabilitation, Emergency Shelter, Public Facilities and Infrastructures.  Additionally, the plan covers Slum and Blight, Economic Development, Program Administration, and Acquisition and Rehabilitation of foreclosed/Abandoned/Blighted properties.

MOSAIC Group Wins Guildmaster Award for Customer Service

Metro Atlanta-based MOSAIC Group [Architects and Remodelers] has been awarded a 2013 Guildmaster Award for exceptional customer service. The company is owned by William Fadul and Rick Goldstein. GuildQuality, an independent customer satisfaction surveying company, has powered the Guildmaster Award since 2005 to celebrate service excellence in the building, remodeling, contracting, and home services professions.

Over the past few months, GuildQuality reviewed numerous survey responses submitted by clients of Guildmaster candidates. In granting awards, GuildQuality considers two primary metrics for each candidate: the percentage of customers who would recommend and the percentage of customers who responded. MOSAIC Group achieved a recommendation rate of greater than 90 percent from their customers, who were surveyed through GuildQuality.
