Atlanta author to hold book signing

ATLANTA -- A local author will hold a book signing at the Georgia-Hill Branch Library later this month.

Atlanta resident Maria Zuckerman will sign copies of her novel, Painting a Purpose, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Tate Publishing, Zuckerman's publisher, provided a synopsis of Painting a Purpose:

When the young Enrique Valverde De La Roca defies his father's aim for him to become the next in a line of prominent architects, he must face the consequences. The first born of his family, Enrique realizes he can no longer live on the same island as his family. Facing this life-changing decision, Enrique leaves the island and plans to pursue his own dream of being an artist. While struggling with his feelings of alienation from society, he achieves fame as a painter and writer.

Rock Band Camp to teach kids to write songs

ATLANTA -- Send your aspiring rock star to a special winter camp that will teach kids the fundamentals of making music.

Winter Rock Band Camp will be held Dec. 20-22 at In Tune Studio in Grant Park.

The camp is designed for children ages 9-13 and will teach them to write and perform their own songs. At the end of camp, the kids will give a concert where they will present their original material.

No prior musical experience is required, but campers are encouraged to bring their own instruments if they already know how to play.

ATLANTA -- Tobacco use is responsible for 87% of lung cancer deaths, most cases of chronic obstructive disease (COPD), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, 21% of all coronary heart diseases and kills more than 400,000 Americans each year, with about 700 of those deaths occurring in Fulton County.

FULTON COUNTY -- To celebrate the holiday season, the South Fulton Arts Center will host a wreath exhibit at the center in College Park on December 1.

They are now looking for artists and crafters to make artistic versions of holiday wreaths, using various materials to be shown and sold at South Fulton Arts Center's Holiday Arts and Crafts Market.

As part of a Green Halloween, GEHC will be hosting a costume donation and swap. During the month of October, drop off old costumes, masks, and accessories in the GEHC lobby. The costume swap event will kick off on October 13th, from 1-4pm, and continue each Saturday, from 10am-4pm, until Halloween.
