Champions of Hope Are Half Way There

Twelve of the best and brightest in the community are halfway through their campaign to win the title of the Man & Woman of the Year for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The event, which kicked off its third year in Georgia in April and concludes in June, raises funds for blood cancer research and patient services. Last year’s event raised more than $210,000. This year, the goal is $300,000.

The 2011 Man & Woman of the Year will be crowned based on their success in generating funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society during the ten week campaign. The campaign, sponsored by JEZEBEL and Men’s Book Atlanta, will culminate at the Grand Finale Celebration on June 4th at the Loews Atlanta Hotel. More than 500 people are expected to attend to celebrate this exciting event. Platinum sponsors for the event are Nalley Audi and Frazier & Deeter.

During the campaign, the candidates will raise money in honor of local blood cancer survivors, the Boy and Girl of the Year. The Girl of the Year is eleven year old Christina. Christina, a lymphoma survivor, is a fifth grader at The Lovett School. The Boy of the Year, seven year old Jordan, is a leukemia survivor and attends Pace Academy in Atlanta.

The Master of Ceremonies at this year’s Grand Finale is Christine Pullara. Christine is the current host of "Atlanta & Co." on WXIA-TV. Christina is passionate about the cause, as her brother is a leukemia survivor. "It is for my brother, Mario Pullara," she says, "and the millions of Americans who suffer from blood cancers, that I will do my part to continue to aid in research efforts to find an end of this disease."

Grey Goose, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, and Anheuser Busch are sponsors of the Grand Finale. Entertainment will be sponsored by Lethal Rhythms, one of the hottest deejays in the city. Tickets for the Grand Finale are now for sale. To purchase them, go to: http://www.mwoy.org/ga/localchapter/finale/

"The Grand Finale of the Man & Woman of the Year event is not to miss," says Dick Brown, executive director of the Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "The event is amazing--- cocktails, silent auction, seated dinner, entertainment and a live auction. The auction includes wonderful trips, spa services and one of a kind items. It’s an unforgettable night!"

The Man & Woman of the Year campaign is off to a fantastic start," said Tracy Manning, manager of the campaign at the Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. "Candidates are working hard to raise critical funds to help bring help and hope to thousands of blood cancer patients. We are all anxious for the Grand Finale where the Man & Woman of the Year will be announced—but the truth is that everyone is a winner in this campaign because of the difference these candidates are making in the lives of others."
