ATLANTA -- In support of World TB Day on March 24th, the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness will sponsor Tuberculosis Awareness Events for residents to learn more about the disease. County residents are encouraged to take advantage of the following opportunities to gain valuable information about tuberculosis:

Wednesday, March 20 - 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Be TB AWARE Health Fair/Presentation in Observance of World TB Day (FREE HIV Testing & TB test if needed / Refreshments) at the Aldredge Health Center located at 99 Jesse Hill Jr. Dr., SE, Atlanta, GA 30303

Saturday, March 23 - 7th Annual TB Awareness Walk - Grant Park located at 800 Cherokee Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30315; Registration and Entertainment begin at 8:00 a.m.  – Walk starts at 9:00 a.m.; Register today at www.tbcontrollers.org  or Contact: Eva T. Forest 678-503-0503  

In 2012, there were 55 cases of TB reported in Fulton County; 359 cases were reported statewide.  To aid clients with recovery, Fulton County follows the systematic use of providing TB treatment through directly observed therapy (DOT) which is the standard of care for providing tuberculosis care as well as education outreach efforts to increase public awareness.

First sponsored in 1982, World TB Day seeks to raise awareness about the health and economic consequences of TB. TB remains a threat to the health and well-being of people around the world.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of TB cases in the United States is on the decline.
