Chipper Jones to be inducted into Braves Hall of Fame

ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Braves will honor former third baseman Chipper Jones by inducting him into the team's Hall of Fame and retiring his number.

Jones' induction ceremony will take place Friday, June 28 at Atlanta's Marriott Marquis before the Braves' game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"Chipper was a Brave from the beginning to the end of his career, and his legacy will forever live in our record books," Atlanta Braves president John Schuerholz said in a statement. "There is no greater honor that we can bestow upon him than to induct him into our Hall of Fame and retire his iconic number 10."

Men in Motion celebrates 10 years

ATLANTA -- Men in Motion, a dance troupe with Moving in the Spirit, will hold three 10th anniversary performances this month.

Men in Motion consists of boys ages 8-13, and blends contemporary dance and hip-hop to inspire audiences.

The shows will be Saturday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for kids ages 13 and under. Children 3 and under get in free.

Chick-fil-A Daddy-Daughter Date Night returns in 2013

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A's wildly popular Daddy-Daughter Date Night will return in February.

More than 100 Atlanta- and Athens-area Chick-fil-A restaurants will host the event on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Every couple in attendance will receive an activity sheet with conversation topics and a booklet called "Continuing the Conversation," which gives the dads and daughters suggestions for getting to know each other better.

"One of Chick-fil-A's goals is to promote community connections and enrich the lives of everyone we serve," Chick-fil-A area marketing director Robin Lomax said in a statement. "We understand the importance of father-daughter relationships and want to encourage dads to take a break from busy schedules, enjoy their daughters' company over a meal and have fun."

ATLANTA -- With the beginning of a new year and New Year’s resolutions on the rise, many people may be asking what next? The Junior Chamber International of Atlanta is answering just that. JCI-Atlanta offers a wide range of opportunities and events such as community service, networking, personal development, happy hours, trips, international relations, and more.

The next event, the General Membership Meeting, will take place on Tuesday, January 22 from 6:00-8:30pm at Park Tavern in Piedmont Park. The public is invited to join the Jaycees for an hour of networking, followed by announcements and keynote speaker, Phil Minnes.

AKA holding peace rally for middle school students

ATLANTA -- Members of metro Atlanta's chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority will hold a peace rally and workshop for middle school students over the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday weekend.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Ivy Community Center in southwest Atlanta. It is part of the 40 Days of Peace project, which aims to spread service and kindness through the country.

The peace rally and workshop will aim to teach young people about Dr. King's mission, and to raise awareness of crime and crime prevention strategies. Law enforcement members will also give an interactive presentation to encourage children to stamp out gangs and bullying.

Middle school students from several metro Atlanta counties -- Cobb, Cherokee, Clayton, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding and Rockdale -- are expected to participate.

ATLANTA -- A local author will hold a book signing at the Georgia-Hill Branch Library later this month.

Atlanta resident Maria Zuckerman will sign copies of her novel, Painting a Purpose, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12.

Tate Publishing, Zuckerman's publisher, provided a synopsis of Painting a Purpose:

When the young Enrique Valverde De La Roca defies his father's aim for him to become the next in a line of prominent architects, he must face the consequences. The first born of his family, Enrique realizes he can no longer live on the same island as his family. Facing this life-changing decision, Enrique leaves the island and plans to pursue his own dream of being an artist. While struggling with his feelings of alienation from society, he achieves fame as a painter and writer.
