Fiesta de la Familia at Zoo Atlanta

This Sunday, Zoo Atlanta (800 Cherokee Avenue, SE) will be celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month at Fiesta de la Familia, in conjunction with the Latin American Association. Zoo Atlanta guests will enjoy discounted admission, live entertainment and special activities from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Fiesta de la Familia will include Latin music, dance and crafts. Also, Spanish-translated keeper talks and animal encounters. All visitors will receive a discount on general admission during event hours: adults are $15 and children are $10. Discounts are not valid with any other offer or promotion.

Jazoo 2010

Join Zoo Atlanta in celebration of JAZZOO 2010, this Saturday, September 25 from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Zoo Atlanta.

The event will feature kiosks from more than 30 of Atlanta’s best restaurants, specialty cocktails at full-service open bars, and animal viewing until dusk. Live entertainment will include music from 80s cover band The Breakfast Club; Eddie’s Attic Acoustic Stage; MudCat; Sound Investment; and Andrew Brothers Dueling Pianos.

New for 2010 is the opportunity to view and vote on fashions evoked by Zoo Atlanta animals, created by designers from the Savannah College of Art and Design. The garments that will be featured at JAZZOO were designed using a variety of materials: balloons, feathers, rope, coffee filters, paper maché, and aluminum cans.

JAZZOO is an event where whimsical, animal-inspired attire is encouraged.

Zoo Atlanta Recieves Final Inspection

 ATLANTA - September 14, 2010 - Zoo Atlanta has received the final inspection report from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) following a September 9 assessment of the circumstances surrounding a tiger rattlesnake’s escape from quarantine on August 27, 2010. During a thorough examination of all Zoo Atlanta facilities, DNR inspectors noted the three points below as the only areas requiring correction.

 

As to the cause of the snake’s escape, the DNR report validated the original conclusion made by Zoo Atlanta officials during a previous internal investigation, attributing the incident to human error.
