A very special pregame ceremony will be held on Friday, Sept. 28, the Braves said in a statement released Monday. More details will be released closer to the event.
"In this day and age, it is extremely rare that a player of Chipper's stature remains with one team for his entire career," Atlanta Braves president John Schuerholz said in the statement. "We are most fortunate and especially honored to have had him in a Braves uniform for his remarkable 20-year career and we will show him how much he has meant to us."
The Braves also plan to begin selling a commemorative Chipper Jones souvenir program during the New York Mets series that starts Friday. The program features articles from Jones' parents, childhood friends, high school coach, agent and former Braves manager Bobby Cox. It also contains quotes from current and former teammates, other MLB players and celebrities.
The souvenir program will be available for $5 at Turner Field and at the Braves Clubhouse Store at CNN Center.
