City unintentionally sprays brine on vehicles in Grant Park.

ATLANTA (WXIA) -- The city of Atlanta's first effort at using a brine salt/water mixture to pre-treat roads in an effort to help prevent ice from forming on streets, gave some Grant Park residents a surprise this morning,

They awoke to find their vehicles covered in brine.

"I thought it was paint. Someone had taken a bucket of paint and just thrown it out their car," said Heather Smith, a resident.

The city's brand new Public Works Department trucks spray several lanes at a time.

Some of the brine washed-over several cars on both sides of the street in a section of Cherokee Avenue, near the Grant Park Atlanta Police Department precinct.

"We try to avoid cars on the street," said Commissioner Richard Mendoza of the city of Atlanta Public Works Department. "There will be occasions will they will get the over splash of the brine solution, however that solution is harmless and with the first rain, it will actually just wash away."
